Hinckley to host new textile art exhibition

Published Tuesday, 21 April 2026

Hinckley’s Atkins Gallery will celebrate its roots when it hosts a free-to-attend art showcase and demonstrations this May (15-29).

The Midlands Textile Forum’s first ever Hinckley exhibition, titled On the Threshold, will display the work of contemporary textile artists from across the region.

Visitors can expect an impressive breadth of textile artistry, showcasing everything from contemporary stitching and quilting to lace, knitting, weaving, printing, digital manipulation, and painting on cloth.

Artists will be attending the exhibition on select dates* to demonstrate techniques, working on projects and chat with visitors about the Midlands Textile Forum.

The town of Hinckley is well known for its historic links to the textile industry, with the area hosting many top hosiery firms over the years. The Atkins Building itself was the oldest existing and operating hosiery factory in the world until 2002.

Cllr Mark Bools, Deputy Leader of the Borough Council, said: “On the Threshold promises to be a striking showcase as visitors explore the world of local textile art.

“I look forward to seeing all the great work on display and hope to say many of you there supporting the Midlands Textile Forum and the Atkins Gallery.”

The exhibition will be open Monday to Friday, 9am until 5pm. There will be two additional Saturday openings: 16 May, 12:30pm to 2:30pm and 23 May, 10:30am to 12:30pm.
