Borough Council and Cadent extend support for residents

Over the last two years, Community Houses in Barwell, Wykin and Burbage have helped thousands of people facing cost-of-living pressures by offering a warm welcome, practical advice and access to support services.

Funded by Cadent through Ofgem's Vulnerability and Carbon Monoxide Initiative, the programme helps residents with issues such as emergency food support, benefits checks, budgeting advice and access to grants and funding.

Since launching, the initiative has supported more than 4,000 residents and helped nearly 3,000 people maximise their income. It has also improved home safety, with hundreds of carbon monoxide alarms distributed, and residents signed up to the Priority Services Register.

The extended partnership will continue these services while introducing additional support, including energy-saving advice, financial hardship assistance, cooking-on-a-budget sessions, carbon monoxide awareness training, free alarms and free gas safety checks.

Councillor Michael Mullaney, Executive Member for Community Safety, said: “This partnership with Cadent has already made a real difference to residents across the borough. Extending the programme means we can continue to provide vital support to those who need it most, while building on the success of the last two years.” 

Nicola Campbell, Safeguarding Specialist at Cadent, said: “We are proud of the partnership we have built with the council to ensure those struggling in Hinckley and Bosworth receive the extra support they need. We have already seen a significant impact in the area and look forward to seeing how this continues to evolve.”
