COMMUNITY groups, projects and organisations who work with young people across the borough are being encouraged to apply for funding to support their work before applications close on 7 March.
The Borough Council can now make grants available to organisations that work with young people in this area thanks to funding devolved from Leicestershire County Council. The fund - called Early Help Grants 11 -19/24 - reflects the age range which is 11 -19 and up to 24 for young people with learning difficulties. The funding is available for one year only from April 2014 until the end of March 2015.
The grants will be allocated to support a number of different projects across the borough to enable as many young people to benefit as possible. Funding will primarily be allocated to projects or organisations that provide early help interventions and provision for targeted children and young people.
Applications can be submitted by any properly constituted organisation, including voluntary and community sector groups and charities. In addition, applications will be considered from organisations acting on behalf of individual young people within specific criteria.
Projects that have been funded in the past include holiday clubs, creative arts groups, young people's counselling and youth clubs.
Councillor Mathew Hulbert, the Borough Council's Children and Young People's Champion, said:
"This is a fantastic opportunity for groups working with young people to apply for a grant, at a time when such funding is quite rare. There's so much good work going on with children and young people across the borough and I'm sure this money will be put to very good use by those who are successful."
The closing date for submitting applications for the first round of funding for both of the grants in the Hinckley and Bosworth District will be 12 noon, 7 March 2014.
