THE 9th national Armed Forces Day will be celebrated in Hinckley next Saturday (24 June).
Residents will be given a chance to say 'thank you' to members of the Armed Forces, both past and present, with a special outdoor service and parade through the town centre.
Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council and the Hinckley Combined Ex-Service Association have worked together to organise the event and hope that it will be a fitting tribute.
Representatives from several regiments, nationalities, sections and services will be present at the event, including the local cadet forces.
The service will take place in Argents Mead at 11.05am, followed by a parade down Castle Street and on to Regent Street, where a salute will be taken.
During the service there will be a very special presentation made to Mr Ron Collyer, a resident of the borough who has been awarded the rank of Chevalier in the Order National de la Légion d'Honneur (Legion of Honour), France’s highest distinction. A representative from the French embassy, M Jean-Claude Lafontaine, is coming to Hinckley especially to present it to him.
All are welcome to attend this free event.
