A LOCAL FURNITURE RETAILER is set to open in the former Co-op Super store building early next year.
The Borough Council has announced it is close to finalising a lease for the former Co-op building in Castle Street, which it acquired just over a year ago, in a deal which also saw the 130 space car park secured for workers, shoppers, and leisure centre users.
Leader of the Council, Councillor Mike Hall, is delighted with this development. He said: “Last year the Council acquired the site which enabled the Castle car park to be reopened, and it is now one of our busiest car parks, but our main aim was always to find a high quality tenant who would breathe even more life into the town centre, and this is great news for shoppers and businesses in the town.
“Having recently beaten competition from Market Harborough, Loughborough and Melton Mowbray to be crowned 'The Best Market Town in Leicestershire', Hinckley will now have even more to offer."
Chief Executive of Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, Bill Cullen added: "Once the legal process is complete we expect local furniture retailer, Cut Price Suites, to open early in 2018.
“Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council will continue to operate most of the existing car park and we are particularly pleased that Cut Price Suites intend to retain the direct access through the store to Castle Street, once again giving shoppers easy access to the shops and businesses throughout the town centre.”
Gareth Hancock, Partner at Cut Price Suites said: "We are excited to announce the opening of our new superstore in February 2018 in the former Co-op building on Castle Street. The opening of the store will see us merging our internet team and showroom and we believe that Hinckley is the perfect place to do this.
“We carefully considered many areas within Leicestershire and left no stone unturned, but decided that Hinckley had exactly what we needed; the road networks, the huge investments in the town itself and the growth of residential new build properties in the area really made it stand out. We'd very much like to thank Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council for their continued help and look forward to welcoming customers new and old into our store."
Steve Wegerif, Director of Hinckley BID said: “We very much welcome the decision by Cut Price Suites to move from Leicester into Hinckley. At a recent meeting with the owner it was clear that they are keen to be a part of the Hinckley townscape and enter into the spirit that continues to see Hinckley both win Awards and attract families into our vibrant town centre.”
Hinckley has a thriving town centre with over 150 retailers, an award winning leisure centre and park, with a mix of parking for 1,400 cars.
Cut Price Suites is a family business that was established in Leicester over 30 years ago. Since then it has grown into one of the Midlands leading retailers of quality furniture at discount prices.
