FESTIVE SHOPPERS packed Hinckley town centre on Sunday (16 December) for the first Merry munch market.
The lure of the special market encouraged record breaking numbers of Sunday shoppers to brave the cold weather and come out to shop in the town, with the town experiencing the second largest footfall figures for a Sunday this year, beaten only by Hinckley BID’s Classic motorshow in September.
The special Christmas themed Sunday food market, which is managed by East Midlands Markets and Events (EMME) in partnership with Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council, was added as a new event for December following the popularity of many other successful events held in the town throughout the year. Around 30 stalls offered an array of hot and cold food and drink plus crafts, collectibles, Christmas decorations, jewellery and gifts from local producers.
Executive Member for Culture, Sport and Leisure at the Borough Council, Councillor Maureen Cook said:
Another success for Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council! Many visitors to the Merry munch have already contacted me to say how much they appreciated the wonderful experiences and opportunities which prevailed in our town at this special Christmas Sunday market. The atmosphere was endemic. I would like to thank all of our staff for their foresight and organisation to bring about this event.
