A SPECIAL outdoor service and parade was held in Hinckley on Saturday (29 June) to enable people to show their support for the Armed Forces.

Hundreds of people came along to show their respect in the glorious summer sunshine, making it the best attended Armed Forces Day celebration event in Hinckley yet.

Now in its 11th year, Armed Forces Day gives everyone the opportunity to show their support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community; from currently serving troops to service families, veterans and cadets.

A procession marched down Castle Street and into Argents Mead for a service and then the parade made its way down Castle Street and along Station Road where a formal salute was taken for our fallen soldiers.

Organised by Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council and the Hinckley Combined Ex-services Association, the event included representatives from several regiments, nationalities, sections and services, including the local cadet forces.

Executive Member for Culture, Leisure, Tourism and Town Centres at the Borough Council, Councillor Keith Nichols, said

We are proud to be supporting Armed Forces Day once again this year and it was great to see so many people there on Saturday. It is important to remember and recognise what the men and women in our Armed Forces have done and continue to do for us.

The Armed Forces day flag was also flown at the Hinckley Hub on Monday 24 June to Monday 1 July in order to mark this national event.
