The Borough Council, St Peters Church and Market Bosworth Parish Council intend to join forces to oversee the development of land south of Station Road, Market Bosworth.
The site has been allocated for development in the Borough Council’s Local Plan and the Market Bosworth Neighbourhood Plan. It is owned primarily by the Church although the Borough Council owns land that will provide the necessary access.
It is expected that there will be around 100 to 150 dwellings and up to one hectare of employment land.
The objective is a development of high quality design in keeping with the distinctiveness of the town, with affordable housing well integrated into the scheme, business units for existing and new companies and appropriate community facilities. The plan will be used to secure a developer to ensure completion of the scheme in the next five years.
All parties involved are committed to consult and engage with the local community and existing businesses on the emerging plan and programme for the development. Further details will be announced in due course.
Bill Cullen, Chief Executive of Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council said:
We are pleased to be working in partnership with Market Bosworth Parish Council and St. Peters Church to develop ambitious plans for a high quality new development off Station Road linked to land that has been allocated in the Local Plan and Market Bosworth Neighbourhood Plan. Our first key task is to commission a Masterplan that sets the standards for the design and layout of the new development. It will also show the opportunity for employment land with the potential for accommodating the relocation of some existing businesses from the adjacent Station Road industrial estate. We are committed to securing the timely delivery of this development, engaging with the community, businesses and other stakeholders along the way.
John Wasteney, Chair of Market Bosworth Parish Council, said:
Market Bosworth Parish Council are very keen that the land to the south of Station Road, identified in the Neighbourhood Plan as the preferred site for a mixed use development, for new housing and expansion of the industrial estate is moved forward. The plan passed referendum with 88% support and the parish council and neighbourhood forum group have worked tirelessly since the plan was adopted, to move it forward by implementing the policies and aspirations where feasible and further developing evidence and supporting documentation to support the plan. This collaboration will hopefully ensure that the vision and aims of the plan further developed in the Station Field design brief will be implemented imminently to add further employment opportunities and the required high quality housing development identified by our community.
