Following the recent announcement that indoor gyms and leisure centres can reopen the Borough Council is delighted to announce that Hinckley Leisure Centre plans to open its doors on Monday 3 August.
The reopening will be done over three phases, across three weeks, with measures in place to keep visitors and staff safe.
On Monday, August 3 the gym will open and gym facilities and studio classes will resume.
The following week on Monday, August 10 the swimming pool will open with lane swimming and on Monday 17 August the sports hall / badminton courts will be available.
A date for the re-start of swimming lessons has yet to be finalised.
A series of safety measures have been introduced such as one way systems; perspex screens on reception counters; and sanitising stations throughout the facilities. Only pre-booked visits will be permitted and only card transactions will be accepted.
Executive Member for Culture and Leisure at the Borough Council, Councillor Keith Nichols said:
I’m delighted that Hinckley Leisure Centre will be reopening its doors in a phased return as we adapt to the ‘new normal.’ It is recognised nationally the key role sport and physical activity will play in the recovery from this pandemic.
In readiness for this we have been doing a lot of work behind the scenes with our partners at Places Leisure to plan for how this can be best achieved. It is a key priority for the council helping people in our communities to improve their physical and mental health. Our leisure centre is central to this aim and provides an excellent environment to help keep us physically and mentally healthy.
A spokesperson for Places Leisure said:
We are really pleased with the Government’s decision to allow indoor gyms and leisure facilities to reopen.
Since we closed our facilities on government advice in March, the team has been taking advice from Public Health England, following government guidelines, and consulting with our trade body ukactive to ensure that we can reopen as soon as possible.
Now, as we prepare to do that, we are implementing lots of new measures to keep colleagues and customers safe. Changes will include lots of signage to ensure we all respect social distancing, reduced activity capacities, enhanced cleaning regimes, and hand sanitizing and cleaning stations.
All information as to opening times, activities, how to book, use of changing facilities will be available on our website Hinckley - reopening information (placesleisure.org) and on our Places Locker app.
We cannot wait to welcome our colleagues and customers back.
