Is there a reduced charge for collections of large items collections if I am on benefits?

The charge for collections of large items such as a fridge or household furniture is reducted by 50% if you are on a means tested benefit.

Which benefits quality?

If you are in receipt of council tax benefit, housing benefit or income support then you are eligible for the reduced charge for the special collections (bulky items) service.  

Prices from 1 April 2013 to 31 March 2014 are as follows:

  • One to three items (such as carpets, furniture, electrical) are charged at  £10
  • Four to five items (such as carpets, furniture, electrical) are charged at £15

Please note: Only two collections each financial year (between 1 April and the 31 March) at a reduced rate.

Proof of benefit

You will have to provide proof of your benefit by showing your benefit book or an original award letter to the staff at our main reception at the Council Offices at Argents Mead. Please remember that your benefit information must be current. We are unable to accept photocopies.
