Councillors' allowances and expenses

Councillors are entitled to receive an allowance for the work they do, and an additional payment for any special responsibilities that they may have. They can also claim expenses and travel costs whilst on approved duties. You can view details of our Members’ Allowance scheme (PDF)

The Independent Remuneration Panel on Members’ Allowances met on 24 July 2017 and made recommendations to Council for a new scheme of allowances. Council adopted a new scheme on 7 December 2017 to take effect from 15 May 2018. We will publish details of the new scheme in April/May 2018.
