Ecological interest
Species seen at the common vary with the seasons. In the spring, there are many wildflowers in the woodland habitat, whilst in the summer the grassland habitats thrive, supporting wildflowers and insects.
The following species have been observed in the common:
- 20 species of butterflies
- Species of flowering plants
- 100 species of fungi and 25 species of mammals
- Nuthatches, jays and great spotted woodpeckers

Best times to visit
- Spring: for woodland wildflowers, including spectacular displays of wood anemone, bluebells, orchids and more
- Summer: wildflower meadows hum to the sound of bees and grasshoppers and there are more than 20 species of butterflies
- Autumn: impressive numbers of fungi can be seen
