Response to recent statements about the Local Plan issued by Leicestershire County Council and Luke Evans MP

The statement

The statement below has been issued in response to recent statements about the Local Plan issued by:

Councillor David Bill is the Executive Member for Planning at the Borough Council.

“‘We are disappointed to see the comments posted by our local MP Luke Evans and supported by Minister Chris Pincher about our Local Plan.

We have a current Local Plan known as the Core Strategy which has a timespan to 2026, although we recognise it contains some outdated policies. The council, under the current administration, has worked hard to progress a new local plan and we are pleased to confirm it was approved at a meeting of Council last week for its final phase of consultation before submission to an independent government inspector for an examination in public. Indeed we are pleased to have had support from senior government officials over our approach and progress on the plan.

The delays we have incurred as a result of waiting for relevant support information from the County Council on key matters such as education and highways infrastructure are already well documented.

We are fully committed to supporting the production of neighbourhood plans in this borough and we congratulate the work of volunteers in our communities for the effort and work they have put in to advancing them.

We now call on partners, such as the County Council and Local Members of Parliament, to engage in constructive dialogue which will assist with advancing our new Local Plan. With this in place, we can help protect communities from unwarranted development and guide it to more appropriate areas set out in the Local Plan and neighbourhood plans.”

Councillor David Bill MBE, Deputy Leader of the Council and Executive Member for Planning
