Advice on sorting out recycling problems

Advice on sorting glass, metals and textiles

Glass (other than from bottles and jars)

Glass items such as light bulbs, crockery, and broken window panes are made from a different type of glass to jars and bottles. Light bulbs contain harmful chemicals and must be recycled separately. Glass can be taken to the recycling and household waste site (leicestershire.gov.uk). Please note, long life/low energy and fluorescent light bulbs cannot be disposed of in the black (refuse) bin because they are classed as hazardous waste.

Other metals

The sorting machinery is only designed for food/drink tins and cans which will then be recycled back into new tins and cans. Scrap metal can be recycled through your recycling and household waste site (leicestershire.gov.uk).

Keep textiles and shoes separate

Don't put these items into the wheeled bin. Use the red bag service or take to your chosen charity outlet.
