Running is an exercise that can be enjoyed by most people and is popular with those who want to maintain an active lifestyle.

There are a number of running and jogging groups in Hinckley and Bosworth. These groups are for beginners looking to start running, as well as individuals wanting to increase their fitness levels, or people aiming to join their local running club.

Most new runners start out using a run/walk technique because they don't have the endurance or fitness to run for extended periods of time. There’s no need to worry about what level you’re at, as you can work at your own intensity. 

Running sessions are supported by qualified run leaders who create a safe and friendly environment for all to get involved. See below for your local running groups in Hinckley and Bosworth:

Market Bosworth 1485 Runners

  • Location: Market Bosworth, various locations
  • When: Contact David Lawrie on their Facebook page
  • Details: Aimed at local people who want to take part in social running with those of the same ability to improve their fitness. Offering two groups: Novice/intermediate – designed to increase your confidence and get you moving, can be walked, jogged or a combination of the two. Intermediate/advanced - for those who have some jogging/running experience

Hinckley Running Club

  • Location: Hinckley, various locations (Tuesday), meet at Argents Mead (Thursday)
  • When: Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • Details: Provides a focus for regular running including access to the Leicestershire league races and a cross-country series. Tuesday evenings include speed work, hill sessions, long reps, timed runs. Thursday evenings offer longer runs between six and eight miles. Also offer a run and talk scheme from trained mental health ambassadors and a womble group involving regular litter picks. There is separate membership for beginners and non-beginners

Solely beginner and Couch to 5k groups:

Hinckley and Barwell Beginners Running Group

  • Location: Hinckley, meet at Richmond Park and/or Barwell, meet at George Ward Centre
  • When: Hinckley session: Monday 9:15 to 10:15am, Barwell session: 6:30 to 7:30pm
  • Details: For people who want to take up jogging for the first time in a controlled environment, it's about enjoying running, getting out in the fresh air and being social

Easier Said Than Run Beginner Group

  • Location: Burbage
  • When: Every Thursday at 6:30pm
  • Details: By the end of the 12-week course, the group aims to get the members running 5km non stop, guided by two coaches from Hinckley Running Club. Beginner courses will be £24 if pre-paid or £3 per session

Most of these courses are road routes and will only take place off road if the roads are too icy for safety.
