Kids snap to it at family festival
The ever-popular Snap Dragon Children and Families Festival returned to Argents Mead during the first week of August, delighting local families with three vibrant, fun-filled days of activities and entertainment.
The festival started on Monday with a musical mash up range of themed activities, Tuesday saw Active Hinckley & Bosworth host Let’s Get Moving and Wednesday, National Play Day was all about the importance of play.
Each day, children enjoyed playing in a giant sand pit, arts and crafts by the United Reformed Church, role play activities, garden games, local radio station Fosse 107 put on a fun Snappy disco, and children and families enjoyed a range of different demonstrations from drumming by BeatFeet, kickboxing by Spartans Kickboxing Academy and John Potter’s Knight School.
For children and families who had sensory requirements there was a calm corner, offering a relaxing atmosphere and sensory aids.
There was the traditional mascot tug of war competition featuring Filbert the Fox, musical performances from the Lee Academy of Dance and Drama, Grays Drama Academy also performed with the opportunity to meet and greet their real-life princesses and Tom the Tale Teller spun his tales of myth, magic and adventure.
Plus, for the first time Hinckley BID hosted a fancy dress swap shop, which was so successful the initiative continued throughout the summer at the Britannia Centre.
Deputy Leader Cllr Mark Bools said: “It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces at Snap Dragon this year. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us, from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue, Hinckley Police to Leicestershire Pickleball plus the many others. We hope everyone had an amazing time and created some unforgettable memories.
“A big thank you to the organisers who made this event such a success. The weather was mixed, but that didn't stop the fun. We’re already looking forward to bringing the magic back next year.”
Feast serves up a great weekend
Feast Hinckley made a vibrant return to Argents Mead on 2 and 3 August, bringing together over 50 food and drink vendors offering a delicious mix of national and international flavours.
Visitors were treated to live performances from Okapi, Julie Sings, Richie Phillips, and the Central Midlands Rock Choir, creating a lively atmosphere throughout the weekend. Families enjoyed a 120-foot inflatable assault course, a sandpit for younger children, and a variety of fun activities across the park. Local radio station Fosse 107 kept the energy high with music and entertainment.
Cllr Mark Bools, Deputy Leader of the Borough Council, said: “We were delighted to welcome back Feast Hinckley for its most successful year yet. Thousands of visitors enjoyed fantastic food, music, and family fun. We’re already looking forward to next year’s event!”
