Award categories and criteria

Our award categories for individuals and groups in 2022 were:

  • Inspirational volunteer(s)
  • Young volunteer(s)
  • Creating a sense of community
  • Protecting, improving or supporting our environment. Contributing to reducing the impact of climate change
  • Contributing to our local heritage, culture or tourism offer
  • Keeping people safe and well

Inspirational volunteer(s)

  • Description: An individual or group that you admire or feel is inspirational in respect of their voluntary work – it might be that they are involved in something new or unique, or because of their passion and commitment, perhaps they have overcome or are dealing with adversity
  • Nomination criteria: An individual volunteer or group living and volunteering in the borough of Hinckley and Bosworth

Young volunteer/s

  • Description: We wanted to hear about some of the great young people we have in the Borough who are volunteering and contributing their time and skills to benefit others within our community
  • Nomination criteria: A young (under 18) individual or group of volunteers living and volunteering in the borough of Hinckley and Bosworth 

Creating a sense of community

  • Description: This was about recognising volunteers who helped individuals or groups of people to feel included, supported, involved and enabled to enjoy life within their community. For example: befriending, good neighbours, guide and scouting, walking, bowling, church groups, practical support such as offering transport, handyman services, community kitchens, allotments and libraries or even teaching young people practical skills
  • Nomination criteria: An individual volunteer or group living and volunteering in the borough of Hinckley and Bosworth

Protecting, improving, or supporting our environment. Contributing to reducing the impact of climate change

  • Description: An individual or group who contribute to, and benefit our environment, making it a better place for us all. This could include: tending wildflower meadows, supporting local woodlands and canal management, community gardens, litter picks, protecting the wildlife, projects that reduce the use of plastic, or encouraging recycling
  • Nomination criteria: An individual volunteer or group living and volunteering in the borough of Hinckley and Bosworth

Contributing to our local heritage, culture and tourism offer

  • Description: This category aimed to recognise those who enable others to appreciate and benefit from our local heritage and cultural offer, making this a borough for everyone to enjoy. This could have included supporting a local museum, restoring a local listed building, monument, or even a steam train. It could have been a person who is passionate about the borough’s history and records and shared this knowledge for others benefit
  • Nomination criteria: An individual volunteer or group living and volunteering in the borough of Hinckley and Bosworth

Keeping people safe and well

  • Description: Aimed at recognising those who volunteered for the benefit of others safety and wellbeing, for example: Neighbourhood Watch volunteers, community responders, St. John’s Ambulance, street pastors, foodbanks, or fundraisers for defibrillators, hospices, or other health, safety and wellbeing related good causes
  • Nomination criteria: An individual volunteer or group living and volunteering in the borough of Hinckley and Bosworth

Further information

Hinckley and Bosworth Borough councillors were not eligible for these awards.

Sporting volunteers should be nominated for the Hinckley and Bosworth Sports Awards later in the year.
