The trees you can choose

Choose the right tree

We have carefully chosen trees that are suitable for gardens and will suit different situations. Read the descriptions and choose the best tree for the space you have, and which suits everyone's needs. People with young children and dogs may want to avoid trees with berries.

Remember to consider how big the tree will grow, as well as how quickly it will grow, and its distance from buildings. If you have a heavy clay soil, you may need to increase the planting distance (refer to the maximum recorded root spread noted for each tree below), when deciding how close to plant your tree to a building. Remember to consider neighbouring buildings, too.

We recommend you use the internet to find out more information if needed, but a good place to start is the Woodland Trust online shop (woodlandtrust.org.uk)
