Apply for a single person discount

How to apply

If only one adult (18 or over) lives in a property, the council tax charge will be reduced by 25%. You can only apply to get the discount on your main home and not on any second homes.

A change in who is living at the property

If you are living in a property and all the other adult residents permanently move out, you can apply for a single person discount for council tax. We will need to know where the adults who are leaving the property are moving to. You will not be entitled to a discount if someone is only moving out for a short period of time and intends to return.

Please note that following the link to apply online will involve setting up an online account first: Apply for a single person discount

Alternatively, complete our council tax contact form to request a paper application form, which you can complete and return to us.

It takes up to 21 days to process your application.

Change of address

If you are moving into a property as the only adult resident, tell us about this by completing our change of circumstances form.

Tell us about a change
