Enforcement policy and service standards

In compliance with the Regulators Code (April 2014), the council has published its Enforcement Policy and Service Standards which apply to our regulatory services.

These documents commit the council services to:

  • Using best practice when enforcing legislation
  • Working with businesses to help them meet legal requirements so that they can grow and prosper
  • Delivering our services in a professional, courteous and helpful manner

Which service areas are affected

The council has several services which have powers to enforce criminal and civil legislation relevant to their area of work. The service areas that are particularly affected by the policy are:

  • Environmental protection
  • Smoke free
  • Food hygiene
  • Health and safety
  • Licensing
  • Private sector housing
  • Public health
  • Planning
  • Litter and waste
  • Building control
