Adapting council homes for disabled people

The process

Following requests from Social Services, major adaptations to council properties are being carried out. The scope of these works can include the following:

  • Level access shower
  • Stair lift
  • Ramps
  • Wheelchair adapted kitchens
  • Ground floor extensions (bedrooms and bathrooms)
  • Other accommodation requirements as requested by Social Services occupational therapists

If you require a minor adaptation it may not be necessary to contact social services to obtain a recommendation. We will consider carrying out basic adaptations to council properties, such as:

  • The installation of grab rails
  • Lever taps
  • Stair rails
  • Half steps
  • Key safes
  • Level thresholds

If bespoke needs must be met then it is likely social services will need to be contacted in the first instance.

How to apply for assistance

All this work is designed to give an improved standard of life, allowing much improved care in the community for people with a disability.
