Housing associations

Housing associations

There are other alternatives to council housing. Housing associations also provide homes at affordable rents. Housing associations also build new homes. They are registered with and regulated by the Homes and Communities Agency and must follow procedures and standards set out by them.

They provide homes at affordable rents and in some cases will specialise in certain types of accommodation.

Housing associations vary in their size, but in most cases operate in a very similar way to councils, having housing committees, housing officers and waiting lists for accommodation.

Housing associations provide a variety of accommodation for rent, as well as shared ownership accommodation.
