Policy for generated power at community events

Health and safety of traders, staff and the public at our events is of the utmost importance. With attendance increasing annually, Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council has implemented a new generated power policy. 

Generators not allowed:

  • Petrol generators powered by petrol 
  • Open framed generators whether diesel, LPG or petrol powered 

Generators allowed:

  • Fully enclosed and silenced 
  • LPG gas or diesel

Test certificates required:

  • Each generator and associated cabling must have a certificate of performance and safety test prior to use

Noise levels:

  • Noise must be less than 80 dBA measured at seven metres

Refuelling:

  • No refuelling onsite during the event hours. No fuel to be stored in the event area

Generator location:

  • Generators must be in open air, not under tables, marquees, vans or trailers

Barriers:

  • All generators must be surrounded by barriers or in suitable cage

Fire extinguishers:

  • Each generator must have a suitable dry powder fire extinguisher nearby

Suitable protection for generator in the event of rain:

  • All traders must be able to appropriately cover their generator if it rains. For example, using a suitable ‘generator cover while running’
