Accident replacements

If you have an accident in your vehicle and you have to use a replacement hire vehicle, you must transfer your vehicle licence on to your hire vehicle. Once your original vehicle is mended and is roadworthy, you must reverse this process and transfer the licence back to your repaired vehicle.

To ensure that the second part of this process is completed, we ask for your taxi/private hire licence plate back while the vehicle is being repaired, and we will return it to you when the transfer back onto the original vehicle is completed.

Reporting an accident

Any accident involving a hackney carriage/private hire vehicle which causes damage materially that affects either:

• The vehicle's safety, performance, or appearance
• The comfort or convenience of its passengers and driver

Must be reported within 72 hours to Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council under s50 (3) LGMPA 1976 (legislation.gov.uk)
