Someone moves in or out of your property
A new member of the household
Changes that will affect the amount of help you receive towards your rent and council tax:
- Your partner may have moved in with you
- A friend or relative may have moved into your home
- You may have had another child
If you have more people in your household, it may mean that you are allowed more rooms in your property. It is therefore important to let us know within one month of the change.
Please note: If you let us know of a change more than a month after it has taken place, we can only increase your benefit from the Monday after you have notified us of this change.
Council tenants and housing association tenants
If you rent from the council or a housing association, an increase in the number of people in your property may mean that you are no longer affected by the under occupancy scheme. Find out more about under occupancy
Private sector tenants
If you rent from a private landlord, an increase in the number of people in your property may mean that you are given a new rate of local housing allowance. Find out more about local housing allowance rates
