On Thursday 6 May 2021, the following elections will be held:

We have been busy planning to ensure that you are able to cast your vote safely on poll day. Those attending a polling station on poll day with be asked to observe the Covid-19 government guidelines at the time and follow the advice from polling station staff. Signage will guide you through the station safely and please remember to bring and wear your own face covering at all times (unless medically exempt). Remember to also bring your own pencil/pen to mark your ballot paper.

Polling stations are open from 7am until 10pm on 6 May 2021. A list of polling stations will be published below in due course. You can also find your polling station online. Please be aware that your regular polling station may have moved due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Registering to vote

In order to vote in these elections, you must have registered to vote by Tuesday 19 April 2021.

If you are not registered or you have recently moved address, changed your name or nationality then please visit Register to vote (GOV.UK) to register by the deadline. You will need your national insurance number to complete the process.

Postal vote applications

The deadline to apply for, change or cancel a postal vote was 5pm on Tuesday 20 April.

Postal voters will now receive their ballot paper for each election separately in the post. If you have not received all of your postal votes by 29 April at the latest, please contact Electoral Services.

Voters should receive at least two envelopes: one for the Leicestershire County Council election (white ballot paper) and one for the Police and Crime Commissioner election (green ballot paper).

Postal voters who are registered in the following areas will receive an envelope for a parish by-election (yellow ballot paper):

  • Barwell Parish Council – Redhall Ward
  • Burbage Parish Council – St Catherines Ward
  • Earl Shilton Town Council – Church Ward
  • Newbold Verdon Parish Council area

Postal voters who are registered in the following areas will receive an envelope for a neighbourhood planning referendum (lilac ballot paper):

  • Burbage
  • Desford
  • Botcheston

Proxy vote applications

The deadline to apply for an ordinary proxy vote (where you appoint someone to vote on your behalf) was 5pm on Tuesday 27 April 2021.

If after 5pm on 27 April you are unable to vote in person because of a medical emergency, you have been advised that you need to self-isolate or you cannot attend a polling station for work reasons, then you may apply to vote by emergency proxy. The deadline to apply is 5pm on Thursday 6 May 2021. The change must have occurred after 5pm on 27 April. More information about how to vote by proxy
