Hinckley carols around the tree

HINCKLEY’S annual outdoor carol service brought some early festive spirit to the town centre last week.

In spite of the bitterly cold temperatures, around 200 people joined the Mayor of the Borough, Cllr Ozzy O’Shea and the Mayoress Jenny O’Shea to gather around the Christmas tree in the Market Place. The congregation sang a number of well-known carols, accompanied by musicians from Living Rock Church and St Mary’s Primary School choir.

This year’s service was organised by Churches Together and the Borough Council and was led by the Rev Simon Wearn of Holy Trinity Church in Hinckley. The Bishop of Leicester, Martyn Snow, was a special guest and speaker at the event.

Executive Member for Culture, Sport and Leisure at the Borough Council, Cllr Maureen Cook said:

Thank you to all officers and Church Leaders involved in organising this event.  It is heartening to see the community of Hinckley coming together to celebrate the true spirit of Christmas.
