Leicester and surrounding areas return to lockdown

A map of areas concerned in Leicester lockdown

Published Tuesday, 30 June 2020

Following the government announcement that Leicester City and other areas in the county were to return to lockdown, due to an increase in numbers of coronavirus cases, a map has been created.

The map highlights the areas affected by the lockdown. Hinckley and Bosworth is not currently affected.

Areas which are affected include:

  • Leicester City
  • In Blaby District:
    • Braunstone Town (including Fosse Park)
    • Glenfield
    • Glen Parva
    • Leicester Forest East (East of the M1)
    • Thorpe Astley
  • In Charnwood:
    • Birstall
    • Thurmaston
  • All areas of Oadby and Wigston

In these areas non-essential shops are to close immediately; schools are to close from Thursday (unless open for key workers and vulnerable children) and the planned easing of restrictions on Saturday will not go ahead.

People should avoid all but essential travel to, from, these areas and should ‘stay at home as much as you can’.
We are aware that residents will have questions and queries with regards to enforcement and as soon as we can advise more we will. We don’t have all the answers at the moment but please be assured we are liaising with all the appropriate organisations ie Police, Public Health England, Leicester City and Leicestershire County Council and neighbouring councils.
