Universal credit

Universal credit in this borough

Universal credit has now gone live for most of the Hinckley and Bosworth area. This means you will only be able to make a new claim for housing benefit if your situation is covered under one of the exceptions below.

Exceptions

In this borough, you may be able to apply for housing benefit if:

  • Your postcode isn’t yet covered by universal credit. There are a couple of postcodes in the borough that are not currently covered by universal credit (CV13 6 and CV9 3). Check your postcode (ucpostcode.entitledto.co.uk) If you live in one of these postcode areas, you will still claim housing benefit from Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council
  • You live in supported accommodation: for example, you may live in a hostel and be able to claim support fees
  • You are 18 to 21 and either not working, or you are working but your earnings are below the minimum in-work threshold: Housing costs for 18 to 21 year olds (GOV.UK)
  • You are in receipt of the severe disability premium (this was effective from 16.01.19)
