A NEW INDIAN RESTAURANT is set to open in The Crescent, the mixed retail and leisure scheme in Hinckley town centre.

The Borough Council has just agreed a lease with Marwar Caterers to take over the prominent corner unit. The new restaurant, which will be called Bikaneri Bar and Restaurant, is due to open shortly following a refurbishment. The word 'Bikaneri' is used for people from a popular city in Rajasthan (North India) called Bikaner, the city is known for its rich taste in food and spices as well as its culture.

Spokesperson for the family-owned hospitality business, Savitri Bhamu, said: “We are delighted to have successfully reached an agreement with Hinckley and Bosworth Council. We chose Hinckley as we believe there is a potential market gap for North Indian Rajasthani food, as there are mainly Bengali, Nepali and South Indian Restaurants available now. We are very excited to provide customers with Authentic Rajasthani North Indian food including vegan and vegetarian options as well as an enjoyable experience for customers. We chose The Crescent, as we believe this a primary location with a high footfall, and we believe our restaurant will be a great addition to the Crescent.”

Harry Ward, of Ward Surveyors added: “We are delighted to have agreed the letting of this unit in The Crescent to Marwar Caterers, which represents the first letting in The Crescent following the COVID-19 pandemic and illustrates the confidence occupiers have in the leisure and retail markets in Hinckley.

“We are continuing to receive high levels of enquiries for commercial units of all shapes and sizes within Hinckley town centre and look forward to welcoming several new occupiers to the town in the near future.”

The new restaurant is located in Block C of the Crescent, the council-owned section of the development which also includes Cineworld Cinema, Tarro Lounge, Wildwood, The Elbow Room, and Mobility & Lifestyle.

Council Leader Stuart Bray said: “I’d like to welcome Bikaneri Bar and Restaurant to Hinckley and look forward to seeing this new restaurant flourish in this prominent location. The company’s decision to choose The Crescent for their new business is yet another reason why retaining Block C was the right choice for taxpayers. Not only does it help the council to actively invest in the town centre for residents and visitors, but the income from the site also helps to keep council tax low.”
